Lead energizing and safe group fitness classes focused on strength, balance, and mobility for diverse populations. Build positive relationships with members while maintaining accurate attendance records and adhering to YMCA policies.
Requires a current CPR/AED/First Aid certification and a nationally accredited Group Fitness or Personal Trainer certification, or a related Bachelor's degree. Candidates must have experience teaching in a group fitness setting.
Leads group fitness classes to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals. Conducts energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes. Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA community. Maintains working knowledge of up-to-date health, fitness, and wellness industry standards and trends to provide effective information and support to members. Reports regular, accurate, up-to-date class attendance records. Follows YMCA and Health & Wellness Department policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations as needed. Communicates effectively and in a professional manner with team members and staff; actively responds to Health & Wellness Department communications in a timely manner. Performs various duties for Health & Wellness Department as requested by Health & Wellness Director.
Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (must have a hands-on, live component) Current Group Fitness Instructor and/or Personal Trainer Certification by a Nationally Accredited Certifying Agency (i.e. ACSM, NASM, AFAA, ACE, NESTA); or current Specialty Instructor Certification (i.e. Cycling, Yoga Alliance, Pilates, Zumba®, Tai Chi); or Bachelor’s degree in related field (i.e. Kinesiology, Dance, Health Science, Child Development, Public Administration – Non-Profit Organization) Experience teaching in a group fitness class setting
Ability to teach 2+ different group fitness class formats Experience working in a health club and/or community center environment Experience working with a variety of exercise populations (Senior population a plus) Availability to sub Group Fitness Schedule classes for Health & Wellness staff
