About the Role

The School Nurse plays a critical role in promoting the health, safety, and well-being of students within the educational environment. This position involves providing comprehensive nursing care, including assessment, intervention, and follow-up for acute and chronic health conditions. The School Nurse collaborates closely with students, families, educators, and healthcare providers to develop individualized health plans and ensure compliance with health regulations. By delivering health education and advocating for student health needs, the nurse supports a safe and healthy learning atmosphere.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Experience in Pediatric Nursing or School Nursing.
  • Completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent degree.
  • Experience in clinical nursing practice, preferably in pediatric, family, or community health settings.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to school health services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Nurse Practitioner (NP).
  • Experience in Medical/Surgical Nursing or Critical Care nursing.
  • Training or certification in emergency response and first aid.
  • Experience with patient education and health promotion programs in school or community settings.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and data management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct health assessments and screenings to identify student health needs and risks.
  • Provide direct nursing care for students with acute illnesses, injuries, or chronic conditions during school hours.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans and emergency protocols in collaboration with families and healthcare providers.
  • Educate students, staff, and families on health promotion, disease prevention, and safety practices.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate referrals to external healthcare services and follow up on student health outcomes.
  • Ensure the school environment complies with health and safety regulations and supports student well-being.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to support students’ physical and emotional health needs.
