Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Physical Education Teacher to provide engaging instruction for students in Grades K–6. The successful candidate will promote lifelong health and wellness by developing students' physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy habits through a structured and engaging physical education curriculum aligned with the school's instructional philosophy. Many classes are held outdoors, and the teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe, active, and inclusive learning environment. Essential Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging physical education instruction aligned with the school's curriculum and instructional philosophy. Develop age-appropriate lessons that promote physical fitness, motor skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles. Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive environment that encourages active participation and respect for others. Supervise students during indoor and outdoor physical education activities, ensuring safe use of equipment and adherence to safety procedures. Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of participation, skill development, and academic performance. Prepare progress reports and report cards as required. Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers, administrators, and colleagues to support student success. Implement the school's assertive discipline model and maintain consistent classroom expectations. Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and other required school events. Perform additional duties assigned by the Assistant Director or Leadership Team.
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field required. Massachusetts Physical Education licensure (or eligibility to obtain licensure). Strong knowledge of elementary physical education curriculum, child development, and age-appropriate instructional practices. Excellent classroom management and student engagement skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Strong organizational, leadership, and collaboration skills. Ability to perform responsibilities in accordance with school policies and applicable state and federal regulations. Successful completion of applicable Massachusetts MTEL requirements within one year of employment. Reporting Relationship This position reports to the appropriate Department Chair and Assistant Director and is an annual appointment subject to yearly evaluation.
