Plans and delivers lessons to promote students’ English language development. Collaborates with classroom teachers and specialists to ensure achievement of EL/MLs across content areas through the Sheltered Instruction and the English Language Development program models. Administers formative and summative assessments to monitor language progress and ensure student achievement. Completes documentation required for compliance with state and federal guidelines. Completes daily logs of student services. Attends regular Professional Development offerings. Be available for afternoon and evening parent-teacher conferences and school events. Additional duties as assigned.
Candidates for English Language (EL) Teacher positions should preferably hold a valid English as a Second Language teaching license for the grades they will serve (K-12). Minimally, candidates for this position must be on an approved pathway towards gaining ESL licensure for the grades they serve and obtain ESL licensure within 2 years. Demonstrates knowledge of first and second language acquisition theory, second language learning patterns, and best practices in English language development. Reflects an awareness and acceptance of cultural differences exhibited by the students and their families. Possesses those characteristics necessary for acting as an advocate for multilingual families within the school. Read, analyze, and interpret student academic data. Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate with classroom teachers, administration, and families.
