Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, Assistant/Associate Professor, Psychiatry, Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine. ROLE of the POSITION The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine is seeking to expand the Psychiatry faculty. These positions include patient care in the outpatient clinics, consultation-liaison setting at our affiliate hospital with both adults, adolescents and children in addition to key leadership and education positions for medical student and resident education in the department. Clinical practice in the department focuses on consultation-liaison services at our affiliate hospital and outpatient services at Mojave counseling, a multidisciplinary community mental health clinic. Educational opportunities include working with residents and fellows in a clinical and didactic setting, medical school curriculum development and precepting for third- and fourth-year medical students. The Department of Psychiatry in Las Vegas is responsible for the training of approximately 45 Psychiatry residents and fellows in general psychiatry residency and both child & adolescent and forensic psychiatry fellowships. The program’s consultation liaison service is affiliated with University Medical Center (UMC) and outpatient care is with Mojave Counseling, both of which offer a comprehensive mix of inpatient and ambulatory teaching experiences. The department's goal is to ensure that each resident and fellow possesses the knowledge, procedural skills, critical thinking and professionalism required to succeed as a psychiatrist. Profile of the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV has been Transforming Healthcare in Southern Nevada since 2017. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS This position requires a MD or DO from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Maintain a clinical practice within a multidisciplinary team in a community mental health outpatient setting. Demonstrate leadership and conflict resolution skills among people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Successful completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency by the time of hire. Must be ABPN certified in general psychiatry within 2 years of hire date. The preferred candidate will have experience working in acute care hospitals or community mental health Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date. Candidates must be eligible for an unrestricted Nevada medical license, Nevada pharmacy and DEA licenses, and malpractice insurance. They must also meet credentialing requirements and be able to obtain privileges at affiliated hospitals and other site locations as needed. The candidate’s educational credentials, terminal degree, experience in an academic medical institution or equivalency, research and scholarly activity will be considered in determining the candidate’s recommended rank. The SOM Faculty Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (FAPT) Committee will use the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV (SOM) promotion criteria to recommend rank to the Dean of the SOM. Tenure consideration may be given upon hire on a case by case basis depending on verified previous credentials, the FAPT recommendation, and SOM Dean's recommendation.
