Pay Range: $15/hr

Position summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Before/After School Counselor will be directly responsible for the safety, supervision, programming and involvement with program participants at the assigned YMCA.

Essential functions

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and or ability required. Ensure the health and safety of each participant and maintain a safe and clean program site.

Participate in supervising before/after school activities with school-aged children.

Be a positive influence and role model in the lives of participants.

Accept the goals and objectives of the YMCA and work to achieve them.

Take part in all training activities to develop proficiencies required for performing job responsibilities.

Maintain positive relationships, open communication with parents, YMCA personnel, participants, administration and volunteers.

Assume any other duties as assigned by the Youth and Family Director and YMCA administrators.

Qualifications

  • Relate to children, members and other staff in a positive manner.
  • Possess maturity with good moral character and integrity.
  • Possess clear communication skills with children, adults, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Skills in working with children and helping to make their YMCA experience a meaningful one.
  • Strong decision making skills and ability to take initiative
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 30 days of hire (provided by the YMCA).
  • Six months or more previous experience with child care (Preferred)
