This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Youth Instructor's plan, implement, and supervise engaging activities and programs designed to foster personal growth, learning, and development in children and adolescents. They will maintain supportive and positive atmospheres that welcome and respect all individuals as well as relate to students, parents, and staff in a positive and professional manner at all times.
1. Plan and lead youth enrichment classes. 2. Responsible for creating and administering program-specific skills according to the age appropriate class description and/or curriculum. 3. Help children manage behavior using a positive approach, including redirection and using constructive discipline with natural and logical consequences. 4. Interact, initiate and encourage the children in the activities during class. 5. Address children who are not performing exercises/activities correctly by demonstrating proper form techniques. 6. Encourage member involvement with children, parents and/or school as well as identify potential volunteers. 7. Respond promptly and courteously to all member inquiries/needs. 8. Provide feedback to parents and/or school personnel regarding their child/children's participation and behavior in the program. 9. Set up and monitor class equipment, ensuring equipment remains in working condition. Report all equipment repair needs to supervisor immediately. 10. Maintain close supervision of children at all times, ensuring children are directly supervised at all times. 11. Advise participants on program and class procedures and policies, as appropriate. 12. Distribute handouts and/or class evaluations, if appropriate, and answer questions from participants after each session. 13. Maintains records as required (attendance, assessments, progress reports). 14. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required. 15. Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management. 16. Participates in YMCA Annual Campaign annually 17. Performs other job-related duties as requested.
