About the role

The Employment Coach assists individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in obtaining and maintaining community-integrated employment through training and advocacy. Responsibilities include job development, placement, and providing ongoing support to ensure employment stability based on individual service plans.

Summary

The Arc of Union County Inc. is a leading Community Employment Services provider of Person Centered Therapeutic services to vulnerable persons and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through Vocational Rehabilitation Services. Employment Coach, WFD&ES (Workforce Development and Employment Services), assists service recipients in obtaining and maintaining community-integrated employment by training individuals in specific job functions in a person-centered environment. Employment Coach, WFD&ES is responsible for job development, job advocacy, job matching, job readiness, placement, Information literacy training, social skills training, on the job training, support to maintain employment, and Follow - Along services for individuals served by The Arc of Union County. Employment Coach, WFD&ES is responsible for providing support and supervision of service recipients in community-integrated and agency Supported Employment settings. Employment Coach, WFD&ES delivers education and training to acquire the skills and experience needed to secure meaningful employment in the community, consistent with the participant’s Service Plan. This is accomplished using appropriate vocational training techniques and according to the person focused goals and objectives developed for each individual through the ISP and/or IP process. Coordinates activities of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities individuals in facility employment to train and improve vocational skills for gainful employment through productive work. The Employment Coach, WFD&ES works within an agency Employment Center or in a community work site. Tasks are performed either in small or large groups to support participants with building problem-solving skills, self-help, social skills, adaptive skills, daily living skills, and leisure skills. Activities and environments are designed to foster the acquisition of skills, building positive social behavior and interpersonal competence, greater independence and personal choice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Psychology, Rehabilitation, Special Education or related field.
  • A minimum of an Associate’s degree in the Human Services or the rehabilitation related field or three years related experience.
  • Some exposure to Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRs), familiarity with Community Employment Services and/or Social Supports Services for Individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP) certification by the Employment Support Professional Certification Council of the Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE).
  • Must be 21 years of age or older. Some experience in community job development, advocacy and employment skills development.
  • Must have a Valid New Jersey driver’s license and abstract (not to exceed 5 points), and ability to meet agency insurability requirements.
  • Complete State/Federal Criminal Background checks and Central Registry checks.

ADA Expectations

This position requires an employee to perform duties in an indoor and or outside setting where exposure to weather elements, dirt, and dust, unpleasant smells, and/or loud noises are possible including occasional temperature fluctuations depending on the climate/season/weather. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical Demands

The physical demands for this position must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to maintain a stationary position (standing and sitting), move/traverse, kneel, bend, reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time, twist, carry, lift up to 35 pounds, squat and drive a 6-person passenger van, may require operating manual devices such as hydraulic lifts, wheelchair lifts, vehicle doors, etc. for the purpose of transporting service recipients. Agility with wrist and finger dexterity to access, key and sort electronic information or file documents, ability to view computer and/or electronic device for extended period and other physical duties as directed by your supervisor and/or Director.

Ability to apply Agency Training Crisis Management Verbal and Physical Techniques during a crisis consistent with criteria as trained and in accordance with agency policies and procedure.

The essential Cognitive Functions of this position may include ability to analyze, compute, hear and repeat information, take notes, read documents, generate written information, independently problem solve, tolerate interruptions, maintain positive public relations, organize, verbally communicate and converse with a diverse group of people among others.
