  • Volleyball About the Department With a rich and storied history, the University of Chicago’s Department of Athletics & Recreation endeavors to serve the broad range of fitness, physical recreation, and athletic needs of the University of Chicago community. The Department sponsors 20 intercollegiate teams and 570 student-athletes in various varsity sports. The Department sponsors more than 40 club sports and a diverse intramural sports program in which approximately 8,500 students participate each year. Numerous open recreation opportunities are provided in the two indoor facilities as well as the outdoor fields, courts, and running track. On an average day, approximately 2,100 students, faculty and staff use the athletic and recreational facilities on campus. Job Summary Under the direction of the head coach, assists with planning, coaching, recruiting, administering, and promoting an athletics program within NCAA Division III and University standards. Recommends, plans, and implements new instructional, training, and conditioning programs. Responsibilities Teaches relevant skills to student-athletes during team practices, games, and individual/small group training sessions. Evaluates the performance of the team and individual student-athletes in order to instruct and advise on technical, strategic, and mental development. Analyzes data and evaluates film in order to develop, implement, and teach game strategies. Run team social media channels to promote UChicago Volleyball to recruits, parents, families, etc. Counsels and advises student-athletes, consulting with the head coach and/or other appropriate University staff as necessary. Participates in the development and implementation of an overall recruiting plan, assisting in recruiting highly selective prospects. Ensures student-athletes and athletics representatives are informed of and comply with NCAA and University rules and regulations. Assists with developing and monitoring the budget. Assists in developing and implementing travel plans. All coaches perform secondary duties within the department.
  • Secondary duties may include: event management, assisting with facility rentals, intramural supervision, etc. Those responsibilities will be determined and assigned based on departmental needs. Has a moderate/high level of authority to participate in staff meetings, individual planning meetings, and parent-student meetings. Helps staff to plan and execute events. Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
