The primary role of the Dual Language (English) Instructor is to deliver classroom instruction that helps students learn. To accomplish this, instructors must create a safe and rich learning environment, prepare effective lessons, assess student progress and offer feedback, manage classroom materials, productively navigate the curriculum, and collaborate and plan with other staff. All instructors report directly to their Building Director. The instructor’s role is to also uphold the mission and values of Community Academies of New Orleans in all student and family interactions to ensure our commitment is promoting academic excellence and success.
Essential Job Duties Planning and implementing high quality instruction in accordance with the identified dual language model, in the target language that ensures the attainment of appropriate grade level learning standards.
Establish and communicate clear content and language objectives for all learning activities.
Co-planning and coordinating classroom instruction with grade level team members (for both target languages), faculty and administration.
Providing ongoing student evaluation through regularly scheduled grade reporting and parent conferences.
Establishing and building great rapport with students to provide a great and exciting learning environment in the target language.
Prepare students adequately for all required assessments.
Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management.
Participate in ongoing professional development, including various modalities of coaching; receiving and provide critical feedback and learning in the classroom; participate in grade-level team meetings and student-focused meetings Remain current on ongoing developments and requirements from the Louisiana Department of Education relative to school accountability, assessment, and curriculum and best dual language practices.
Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
Prepare required reports on students and activities. · Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings.
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
Promote family engagement by developing a partnership with caretakers through ongoing positive communication, and other activities that encourage active participation in student learning in the target language Adhere to the Restorative Justice expectations for managing student relations and behaviors
Bachelor’s degree Fluent English oral and written proficiency Demonstrated ability to work with students and families from diverse backgrounds
Physical Requirements Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 75% of the workday. Able to occasionally move about inside the office and school building to meetings and other assigned duties Occasionally ascend stairs to migrate throughout the workspace
