Position Title

Part-Time Instructor (Open Pool - All Disciplines)

Description

At Chattanooga College MDTC, the Part-Time Instructor will help implement our strategy of “Where a small school can make a BIG difference!!”

The Part-Time Instructor will provide high-quality classroom instruction, curriculum delivery, and student support to enrolled students in their respective program area to support student success, course retention, graduation, and professional skill readiness. This includes responsibilities such as lesson planning, academic advising, student learning assessment, and maintaining accurate academic records. Ideal candidates must have excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and listening skills. Candidates must be able to adapt to a fast-paced work environment and manage multiple priorities and changing assignments.

This is an instructional position supporting the respective academic program department. This role requires considerable interaction with students and academic faculty through individual meetings, group sessions, and/or events. Part-Time Instructors are expected to possess extensive knowledge of their teaching discipline, instructional technology, pedagogical best practices, and learning management systems. They must be able to interpret individual needs, provide personalized support, and work effectively with individuals who may be confused, stressed, or demanding.

Employees in this role can expect to support and assist individuals regarding academic plans, progress, and classroom performance, assist with decision-making related to education and career preparation, and help guide individuals toward successful outcomes. This position requires maintaining confidentiality and accurate records to ensure compliance with accreditation standards, institutional policies, and federal regulations (e.g., FERPA, as applicable). The role may also support institutional events such as faculty workshops, orientation sessions, or program advisory meetings. A strong commitment to equity, access, and success for underrepresented or at-risk populations is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provides high-quality classroom instruction and academic support to a diverse population of students, including regular contact regarding progress and performance.
  • Implements institutional or departmental strategic priorities related to student retention, completion, and classroom engagement.
  • Counsels, advises, or supports individuals through individual and group sessions to address concerns and provide guidance.
  • Educates individuals on institutional resources, academic policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Implements solutions, including technology (such as LMS platforms), to promote efficiency, access, and success.
  • Completes required professional development and training annually.
  • Supports department-wide and student services initiatives.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and records (attendance, grades) in compliance with institutional, accreditation, and federal requirements.
  • Collaborates with departments and colleagues to increase engagement, retention, and success, especially for at-risk populations.
  • Provides appropriate referrals for personal, social, and/or academic concerns that may impair success.
  • Upholds confidentiality and complies with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and federal regulations (such as FERPA).
  • Assists with planning and coordination of events such as workshops, academic reviews, or program meetings.
  • Maintains tools, systems, or resources necessary to effectively perform job duties.
  • Remains current on relevant state and federal guidelines, emerging best practices, and research related to the role.
  • Collaborates with the Program Director, Department Chair, and Academic Dean.

Education & Experience

Education or Training

• A Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree in the teaching discipline (or closely related field); or equivalent professional credentials, licensure, and industry certifications as mandated by the program's accrediting agency.

Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional, industry, or clinical experience is required
  • Experience in higher education, community colleges, or related career/technical school environments is preferred
