Provide high-quality clinical support including taking vitals, performing phlebotomy, and assisting providers during examinations. Manage patient access tasks such as registration, insurance verification, and appointment scheduling using EMR systems.
Welcome students and manage check-in and check-out processes using electronic medical records (EMR) systems Verify insurance coverage, confirm eligibility, and collect payments when needed Schedule appointments for new and returning student patients Assist with prior authorizations and referral coordination Partner with clinical teams to ensure smooth patient flow and efficient operations
Take medical histories and record vital signs Prepare patients for exams and explain procedures clearly and compassionately Assist providers during examinations and treatments Collect and process laboratory specimens; perform basic lab testing Administer medications and support prescription processes as directed Perform clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, EKGs, dressing changes, and suture/staple removal Prepare patients for diagnostic testing including X-rays and other procedures Maintain sterile environments and properly handle medical instruments and supplies
Educate students on care plans and support their understanding of treatment instructions Provide general information about Student Health services and direct patients appropriately Collaborate with clinics and ancillary services to support continuity of care

What You Bring: Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant (AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA)
Graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Experience in a healthcare or ambulatory care setting Experience in college health or student health environments AAMA certification preferred

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $20.00 to USD $25.39.
