Girls Varsity Hockey Coach Assistant

Portledge School was founded in 1965 and is located on the beautiful North Shore of Long Island.

Approximately fifty minutes from NYC by train, Portledge is nestled on a pastoral 63-acre tree-lined campus that is known for its cherry blossoms in spring.

Enrolling approximately 515 students in grades PN-12, Portledge offers a competitive college preparatory program in a warm, inclusive community.

And duties:

• Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, games, and team activities.
• Teach and reinforce hockey fundamentals, individual skills, and team systems.
• Support the development of student-athletes both on and off the ice.
• Promote a culture of sportsmanship, accountability, teamwork, and respect.
• Assist with game preparation, video review, scouting, and player development plans as needed.
• Provide instruction and feedback during practices and competitions.
• Help supervise student-athletes during practices, games, team travel, and school-sponsored events.
• Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes.
• Support communication with players, families, and the Athletic Department.
• Ensure compliance with all school, league, and safety regulations.
• Contribute to building a competitive and positive program that reflects the values of Portledge School.

And skills:

• Previous hockey coaching and/or competitive playing experience required.
• Knowledge of hockey skills, systems, and player development.
• Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach and Athletic Department.
• Experience working with high school-aged students preferred.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive, positive, and supportive team environment.
• Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
