Spanish at Great Hearts: All Spanish courses are taught in a full-immersion style classroom (speaking, listening, reading, and writing only in the language from day 1) Spanish is offered both at the K-5 level and in high school. All courses are taught liberally for the cultivation of the mind and culminate in the reading of canonical literary works, which are examined through reading, class discussion, and writing assignments. Physical Education at Great Hearts: All Great Hearts Elementary School students take Physical Education. The goal of the Physical Education class is to promote both the physical health and the growth in virtue of each student. Rigorous and joyful PE classes have a combination of strength and cardio exercises, training in the basics of sports, and discussions on the virtues, including fortitude, temperance, prudence, and justice. Sports include baseball, soccer, volleyball, football, and basketball. Roles and Responsibilities: Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom that supports the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty. Provide appropriate academic support to students, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address academic or behavioral needs in a timely manner. Uphold and model the culture, policies, and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful and orderly school environment. Communicate clearly and professionally with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering strong home-school partnerships. Participate fully in the life of the academy through faculty collaboration, school events, assigned duties, and a shared commitment to ongoing professional growth and excellence in teaching.
