  • SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Director and Lead Teachers, this position will be responsible for caring for the children in the classroom while following all Maryland State Department of Education guidelines. They will assist the teachers in creating a warm, enriching environment conducive to the development of each age group infant through preschool.

Benefits offered to Part Time employees (12-25 hours per week): Free Membership (Individual) Discount on Y programs MD Sick leave for individuals older than 18 years of age KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: He/she must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions as well as written correspondence; work with teachers to meet the physical, social and emotional needs of children 6 weeks to 5 years old; demonstrate the ability to speak effectively with staff, parents, children and volunteers; ability to apply common sense understanding to complete tasks as they are assigned; ability to demonstrate flexibility and be an active team player; ability to work with office equipment such as copy machine, time clock, computers, etc; understand ethical behavior and business practices and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization; maintains a work ethic that holds a high standard to organizational accountability. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Works with the Director and teachers to implement a quality program in a safe and warm environment while following all risk management guidelines. Is an active participant is all activities. Establishes warm and friendly relationships with parents while respecting family values. Assists the teacher in implementing the daily curriculum and enrichment activities. Learns and complies with all licensing and risk management guides to ensure the safety and well-being of the children. Supports the YMCA mission and participates in YMCA special events. Is a team player and shows flexibility and willingness to work in any area as needed. Maintains an organized and professional work environment which will include daily cleaning of program areas. Shares ideas or suggestions and communicates effectively with other team members to resolve problems that will help ensure a quality child care program. Is a role model for children and staff members. Keeps programmatic issues and participant information confidential and not disseminate outside of the program. Shows imitative by being willing to do more than expected. Participates in trainings, staff meetings, and classes as required by MSDE and YMCA. Assist with set up and cleanup of all meals. Other duties as assigned. QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: At least 16 years of age Within 6 months of employment, aide must complete an orientation class Must complete a minimum of 6 clock hours of training each year that meet the standards set of the Maryland Department of Education.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age with a high school education level. Required to complete an orientation class within six months and maintain six clock hours of annual training.
