University Christian School is seeking a passionate and dedicated High School English Teacher who is committed to academic excellence and Christian education. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop strong reading, writing, communication, and critical thinking skills while integrating a biblical worldview into all aspects of instruction. This teacher will create a positive, engaging classroom environment that encourages students to grow spiritually, academically, and personally.
Essential Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with state standards and the school’s curriculum. Teach high school English courses, which may include Literature, Composition, Grammar, Creative Writing, and Advanced Placement or Dual Enrollment courses, as assigned. Foster a love of reading through the study of classic and contemporary literature. Develop students’ writing skills through a variety of assignments, including analytical essays, research papers, creative writing, and presentations. Integrate biblical principles and a Christian worldview into classroom instruction and discussions. Assess student learning through quizzes, tests, projects, essays, presentations, and classroom participation. Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student progress using the school’s learning management system. Communicate regularly with parents regarding student achievement, behavior, and academic progress. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students. Establish and maintain a classroom environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and student engagement. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events. Support the mission, vision, and values of University Christian School through positive leadership and Christian example. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Head of School.
Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, Secondary Education, or a related field (required). Valid Florida teaching certification (or eligibility to obtain certification) preferred. Previous teaching experience in a secondary school setting preferred. Strong knowledge of English literature, grammar, composition, and instructional best practices. Excellent classroom management and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with educational technology and digital learning platforms. Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and parents. A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and a lifestyle consistent with the mission and values of University Christian School. Preferred Skills Experience teaching honors, Advanced Placement (AP), or Dual Enrollment English courses. Ability to coach, sponsor student organizations, or participate in extracurricular activities. Experience using differentiated instruction and data-driven teaching practices. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry instructional materials up to 25 pounds. Ability to supervise students in classrooms, assemblies, field trips, and other school activities.
