About the role

The Special Education Teacher designs and implements a motivating preschool classroom program under administrative guidance. Responsibilities include creating lesson plans based on IEPs, maintaining progress reports, and supervising classroom staff and students.

We are hiring in Port Jervis, NY! Join us at Easterseals NY for an exciting career as a Special Education Teacher (10-month position)

What You'll Do

As a Special Education Teacher for the preschool program, you will design and implement classroom program under the guidance of the School Administrator and/or designated staff. You will design a classroom environment that is both motivating and stimulating for students.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Provide weekly written plan to the administrator electronically
  • Design lesson plans based on the Units of Study, Creative Curriculum, and the diagnostic information from the IEP
  • Maintain periodic progress reports (Gold Teaching Strategies)
  • Attend CPSE/CSE meetings at appropriate time intervals during the school year
  • Implement behavioral system based on the Positive Discipline policy and PBIS
  • Assure daily attendance records are maintained and submitted appropriately throughout the school year
  • Submit Progress reports and annual reports at appropriate times throughout the school year
  • Attend staff and classroom meeting and parent teacher conferences
  • Assure that all students are supervised at all times in safe, clean environment
  • Attend 4 staff developments days throughout the school year
  • Establish and maintain a respectful work environment with co-workers, parents, and visitors to the program
  • Supervise classroom staff assigned to your classroom

You're a great fit for this role if you have

Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university.

Eligible for teacher certification or enrolled in Master’s degree program leading to certification.

Minimum 2 years relevant experience.

Meet minimum requirements of the appropriate State Board of Education.

Compensation

  • $50,000- $60,000 (depending on credentials and experience)
  • 10-month position with the option to work for the summer session for increased compensation
