About the role

The Assistant Coach is responsible for teaching football skills and tactical principles to student-athletes while managing recruiting efforts in accordance with NCAA rules. They also handle game planning, opponent scouting, and providing academic and social guidance to students.

Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities

Understands and adheres to conference and national rules and regulations for intercollegiate athletics, in addition to the policies and procedures as stated in the Department of Athletics & Recreation Handbook. Teaches basic and advanced skills, techniques and strategies to student athletes. Engages in the recruiting of prospective students in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Teaches basic and advanced skills and tactical principles of a particular sport. Teaches proper techniques and strategies to specific and distinct set of students participating on the team. Prepares students for on-field practice and competition activities through review of game film and classroom instruction. Directs and cultivates team-building activities. Reviews overall team strategies and practice plan with head coach and other assistant coaches on a regular basis. Provides feedback to other coaches on teaching techniques and coaching strategies. Scouts opponents in preparation of game plans and practice plans. Engages in the recruiting of prospective students in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations. Identifies quality prospective students and players. Travels and observes secondary school and other pre-college contests. Evaluates academic and athletic abilities and contributions a student may make to the University. Visits high schools to network with coaches and guidance counselors. Provides information on prospective students to the Executive Director of Athletics and Office of Admissions. Advises and counsels students. Understands the curricular, co-curricular, and social demands on students and advises students on the appropriate course of action in a given circumstance. Follows necessary and prudent safety procedures, protecting health and welfare of students while traveling. Applies medical protocols and emergency procedures when necessary. Teaches proper safety techniques to students. Develops and implements teaching strategies consistent with the team philosophy. Learns new drills through professional development activities and applies to practice plans. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree and 2 years of previous coaching and/or playing experience required Or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience in Physical Education preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of and adherence to all University Conference and National (NCAA) rules and regulations for intercollegiate athletics required

Requirements

A bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of coaching or playing experience are required. Candidates must obtain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications upon hire.
