About the role

Lead the development of shot put and discus athletes through technical instruction and developmentally appropriate training sessions. Collaborate with the coaching staff to foster an inclusive team culture and attend all spring season competitions.

The Loomis Chaffee School seeks an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and experienced Throws Coach to join our Track & Field coaching staff for the spring season.

Loomis Chaffee's Track & Field program is a perennial contender in both the Founders League and Division I NEPSAC, with a long tradition of competitive excellence and student-athlete development. We are seeking a coach who is passionate about teaching and mentoring young athletes while helping them reach their full potential.

The successful candidate will

Lead the development of our shot put athletes while providing technical instruction and support for the discus.

Plan and conduct engaging, developmentally appropriate training sessions for athletes of varying experience levels.

Foster a positive, challenging, and inclusive team culture built on sportsmanship, accountability, and personal growth.

Collaborate closely with the Head Track & Field Coach and event coaches to support the overall success of the program.

Attend practices, dual meets, invitationals, and championship competitions throughout the spring season.

Qualifications

  • Previous coaching and/or competitive experience in the throwing events, particularly shot put and discus.
  • Strong technical knowledge of throwing mechanics and athlete development.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • A commitment to working with high school student-athletes in an educational setting.
  • Understand and follow policies and expectations of Athletic Dept and Athletic Training Staff
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor students while supporting the mission and values of The Loomis Chaffee School.
  • Coaching experience with a school or club program
  • College and/or high school playing experience
  • CPR and First Aid certified or willing to get certification

This is a part-time stipend position.

  • The Loomis Chaffee School is an independent, coeducational boarding/day school of 750 students, located in the historic town of Windsor, Connecticut.
  • Chartered in 1874, the school provides an academically challenging curriculum within a supportive community that affirms individual beliefs and differences.
  • Need-based financial aid is currently awarded to 33 percent of the student body.

Requirements
