About the role

The Elementary Teacher provides a positive educational atmosphere and implements school programs through a team-teaching model for 4th and 5th grades. Primary duties include teaching reading, writing, and religion while collaborating with administrators and parents to support student progress.

Description Description The Elementary Teacher is responsible to provide an appropriate educational atmosphere which encourages positive student learning and to participate in a dynamic setting with other classroom teachers, administrators, curriculum specialists and other staff members in the development and implementation of the school’s programs and goals.

This position is offered as a team-teaching 4th grade position in collaboration with the 5th grade teacher each in their own classrooms and teachers will switch classes for a block of time. The 4th grade teacher will teach reading / writing/ and religion to both 4th graders and 5th graders, while the 5th grade teacher teaches math, science, and religion to both 4th graders and 5th graders.

Requirements

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. Works with administrators and instructional teams to plan and implement hands-on lesson plans for students. · Diagnoses and analyzes for the purpose of providing appropriate instruction. · Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques to meet the individual needs of students. · Assesses student progress in accordance with the approved procedures of the Diocese of Orlando; · Utilizes classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate. · Participates in the Diocese of Orlando Diocesan Catechist Certification Program and in the school-sponsored professional development programs. · Cooperates with the principal and staff members in school-related meetings, activities and projects. · Maintains accurate student academic records and attendance records. · Maintains a safe, orderly and secure learning and working environment. · Participates in the performance review based upon the implementation of the general responsibilities of a professional educator in a school. · Maintains confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students, and general school matters. · Maintains professional relationship between school and parents. · Maintains contact with parents through parent-teacher conferences, telephone, or written communications. · Encourages parental involvement through school activities, connecting home and school. · Maintains all records as required, including but not limited to grade books, attendance records and student progress reports. · Assists in the protection of student and school property. · Keeps up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by Diocese Catholic Schools. · Monitors students in a testing environment. · Maintains timely and accurate information relevant to their job responsibilities. · Performs all tasks in accordance with Diocesan Catholic Schools policies. · Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.

Qualifications

CATHOLIC FAITH Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college that is recognized as acceptable for Florida certification.· Must hold or obtain a Professional Certificate in subject area taught within three years of hire.· Documented progress towards certification must be made within the first year of hire and filed in school personnel file; otherwise teaching contract cannot be renewed.· Must hold or obtain Faith Fit Enrichment Certification in Levels 1, 2, and 3 within three years of hire and continue ongoing enrichment.The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Strong command of both written and spoken English language.

WORKING CONDITIONS· Work is performed mostly indoors in an environmentally controlled setting.· Work is performed in a busy and occasionally noisy environment.· Work is to be performed directly on school campuses.· Works frequently in close physical proximity to others and may encounter work in enclosed or tight spaces.

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar.
  • Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form.
  • Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (15 pounds).A review of this position has excluded the marginal functions of the position that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties.
  • All duties and responsibilities are essential job functions and requirements are subject to possible modifications to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.
