About the role

Provides comprehensive career counseling and professional development services to undergraduate and graduate students. Manages the Career Closet inventory and operations while supporting campus-wide career readiness events and initiatives.

Summary The Graduate Assistant, Career Counselor supports the Office of Career and Experiential Learning by providing career counseling and professional development services to undergraduate and graduate students.

This position assists students with career exploration, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, networking strategies, job and internship search techniques, and graduate or professional school preparation.

The role also supports campus-wide career readiness initiatives, including workshops, classroom presentations, career events, and student engagement programs.

In addition, the Graduate Assistant manages the Career Closet within Bucky’s Boutique, including inventory oversight, student appointments, outreach campaigns, data collection, and program assessment.

Essential Functions Provides comprehensive career counseling and career development services to undergraduate and graduate students.

Conducts individual and group career counseling appointments focused on career exploration, career decision-making, and professional development.

Assists students with resumes, cover letters, personal statements, LinkedIn profiles, and other career-related application materials.

Coaches students on interview preparation, networking, job and internship search strategies, salary negotiation, and graduate or professional school preparation.

Administers and interprets career assessments to help students identify interests, strengths, values, and career pathways.

Develops and facilitates career readiness presentations, workshops, and classroom presentations for academic courses, student organizations, and campus departments.

Maintains accurate records of student appointments, counseling interactions, and assessment data using departmental systems.

Collaborates with Career and Experiential Learning staff to develop resources, support career programming, and promote student engagement in career readiness initiatives.

Supports Career and Experiential Learning events throughout the academic year.

Manages the Career Closet within Bucky’s Boutique.

Conducts annual and semester inventory reviews of Career Closet items.

Maintains the appointment roster for students accessing the Career Closet.

Collects, analyzes, and interprets student participation and outcomes data to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.

Implements ongoing clothing drives and outreach campaigns to support Career Closet inventory.

Prepares quarterly and annual reports and evaluates the Career Closet through student learning outcome assessment surveys.

Creates engaging marketing and social media content using Canva to promote Career Closet services and related events.

Assists with planning, marketing, and implementation of Career and Experiential Learning events.

Supports planning and coordination of fall and spring Career Fairs.

Assists with the Majors and Minors Event and Career Day.

Represents or supports Career and Experiential Learning at on-campus tabling events and other student engagement activities.

Assists with event promotion, logistics, student outreach, and post-event follow-up as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements Bachelor’s degree required; current enrollment in a Barry University graduate program is required.

Strong interest in career counseling, career development, student affairs, higher education, counseling, psychology, education, human services, business, communication, or a related field.

Ability to provide career-related support to undergraduate and graduate students, including assistance with resumes, cover letters, personal statements, LinkedIn profiles, interview preparation, networking, job and internship search strategies, and graduate or professional school preparation.

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, employers, and campus partners.

Ability to work effectively with students from diverse academic, cultural, and professional backgrounds.

Strong presentation and facilitation skills, including the ability to support workshops, classroom presentations, tabling events, and other student engagement activities.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a student-centered, fast-paced environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and willingness to learn departmental systems, career management platforms, and reporting tools.

Ability to assist with inventory management, appointment scheduling, outreach campaigns, and program assessment for the Career Closet within Bucky’s Boutique.

Experience or interest in creating marketing, social media, or promotional materials using Canva or similar design tools.

Ability to work approximately 20 hours per week and support campus events as needed.
