About the role

The RBT implements behavior intervention plans and skill acquisition programs for students under the supervision of a BCBA. They are responsible for collecting behavioral data, supporting classroom staff, and maintaining a positive learning environment.

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides behavioral support to students and classroom staff under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). The RBT works collaboratively with teachers, assistant teachers, educational aides, and other school personnel to support the implementation of behavior intervention plans, skill acquisition programs, and classroom behavior support systems. The position is designed to extend the impact of the BCBA by assisting with data collection, behavioral observations, staff support, implementation monitoring, and the consistent application of evidence-based behavioral interventions across classroom and school settings. The RBT helps promote positive learning environments while supporting student success and staff effectiveness.

This role requires driving so a "clean driving record" is critical.

Minimum education, training, requirements, and prerequisites

High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in education, psychology, human services, or related field preferred.

Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification, preferred.

Candidates who are not currently RBT certified must enroll in an approved 40-hour RBT training course within the first two (2) weeks of employment Candidates must successfully complete the training course and obtain RBT certification, including passing the required competency assessment and examination, within sixty (60) days of course completion.

Ability to maintain active RBT certification in accordance with BACB requirements.

Experience working with students with behavioral, emotional, developmental, or educational needs, preferred.

Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and evidence-based behavioral interventions, preferred.

Valid Virginia Driver's License and proof of insurance.

Satisfactory driving record in accordance with agency standards.

Basic computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office.

Must be able to participate in and maintain certification in crisis de-escalation techniques, First Aid, and CPR.

Must be physically capable of implementing approved crisis intervention procedures when necessary.

Must serve as a mandated reporter.

40 hours per week guaranteed.

Paid school breaks.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-4:00PM.

DRIVING SPECIFIC (The following list may or may not be all inclusive at time of posting):

Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years:

Reckless driving, including speeding 20mph or more over the posted speed limit.

Driving under the influence/impaired/intoxicated or refusing a blood/breath test.

Manslaughter or negligent homicide.

Driving after being declared a habitual offender.

Driving on a suspended or revoked license

Driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified, under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of .04 or higher, refusing a blood/breath test, or violating an out-of-service order.

Injuring a person while racing - felony.

Failure to stop at the scene of a crash where there is injury, death, or property damage of $1000 or more.

Emergency vehicle violation - death.

Vehicular assault or willful stopping, impeding, or damaging a vehicle.

Blocking access to the service facility.

Attempting to elude police.

Operating an unsafe vehicle.

Vulnerable Road User – Death.

Must not have any of the following violations within the last 3 years:

Passing a stopped school bus.

Careless driving.

Three or more minor moving violations within the last three years

Specific duties and responsibilities

Essential Functions

May be required to perform any of the following duties:

  • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs), behavior support plans, and skill acquisition programs with fidelity under the supervision of a BCBA or BCaBA.
  • Provide direct behavioral support to students across classroom and school settings as needed.
  • Support teachers, assistant teachers, and educational aides in the implementation of behavior intervention plans, behavior support strategies, and classroom management procedures.
  • Model evidence-based behavior intervention strategies and support practices as directed by the supervising BCBA/BCaBA.
  • Conduct behavioral observations and communicate findings, concerns, and student progress to the supervising BCBA/BCaBA.
  • Collect accurate and timely behavioral, academic, and skill acquisition data and assist classroom staff with data collection procedures.
  • Support progress monitoring for IEP goals, behavioral objectives, and skill acquisition programs.
  • Assist with monitoring the implementation fidelity of behavior intervention plans and behavior support procedures as directed by the supervising BCBA/BCaBA.
  • Collaborate with teachers, assistant teachers, and educational aides to support student success.
  • Prepare and maintain behavior support materials, visual supports, token systems, data sheets, and other intervention resources.
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of behavior data systems, graphs, and documentation as directed by the supervising BCBA/BCaBA.
  • Communicate with the supervising BCBA/BCaBA and Supervisor of Behavior Analytic Programming regarding challenges, barriers, or concerns affecting student progress or plan implementation.
  • Serve as a mandated reporter for suspicions of child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
  • Report all student injuries, accidents, and illnesses to the school administrator immediately or as soon as reasonably possible.
  • Maintain certification requirements, including RBT certification, crisis intervention training, CPR, and First Aid as required.
  • Perform related duties and other responsibilities as assigned by school administrators, the supervising BCBA/BCaBA, or the Supervisor of Behavior Analytic Programming.
