Job summary

Instructs student athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student athlete shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities performed on the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations only and are subject to flexibility dependent on organizational needs.
  • Develop and implement procedures for insuring open communication with parents and athletes. [Daily, 30%]
  • Establish direction and expectations for all program participants. [Daily, 30%]
  • Be responsible for, understand, adhere to, enforce, implement district, school and athletic policies along with CHSAA By-Laws. [Daily, 30%]
  • Understand the signs and symptoms of concussions and remove players that are exhibiting sign sand symptoms of concussions. [Daily, 5%]
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 5%]

Minimum Qualifications

  • The minimum amounts of formal education, professional work experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that must be met for a candidate to be considered for a position
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • Ability to organize and develop a high school program
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and a willingness to examine new theories and procedures
  • Ability to use approved first-aid and CPR skills
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire

Minimum certifications and licenses

The minimum certifications and licenses that must be met, valid, and unexpired for a candidate to be considered for a position

Colorado Coaching Certificate

Successfully pass the CHSAA Coaches Test, acquire CHSAA coaching registration and complete a concussion course per State Legislation and CHSAA By-Laws

CPR & AED Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Any job-related formal education, professional work experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, certifications, licenses, and other criteria that are inessential and in addition to the minimum qualifications, certifications, and licenses
  • Has previous successful teaching, coaching and/or sport participation experience
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement

Physical and mental demands

  • The physical exertion, cognitive capacities, and work environments required to perform a position’s duties and responsibilities
  • Medium work strength level (lifting or carrying 50 pounds)
  • Works both indoors and outdoors
  • Overhead lifting and squatting required on a daily basis
  • Repetitive motion
  • Standing, bending and kneeling
  • Eye/hand coordination
  • Handling, talking, hearing and near acuity required

Requirements

Requires a High School Equivalency diploma, a Colorado Coaching Certificate, and CPR/AED certification. Candidates must pass a background check and the CHSAA Coaches Test.
