About the role

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for designing and executing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to meet diverse student needs. They collaborate with general education staff to implement inclusive teaching techniques and manage student behavior to support social and emotional growth.

Core Responsibilities of the Special Education Teacher Design and execute individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet the distinct educational needs and goals of each student.

Partner with general education teachers and support staff to adapt instructional methods and materials for effective inclusion.

Implement a variety of teaching techniques and utilize technology to engage students and enhance learning.

Evaluate student progress frequently and adjust teaching approaches as necessary to accommodate various learning styles.

Provide focused, direct instruction in both inclusive and small-group settings when needed.

Deploy effective behavior management strategies to support students' social and emotional development.

Regularly communicate with parents/guardians to share achievements and areas for improvement, ensuring a collaborative approach to education.

Participate in IEP meetings, contributing to the formation and application of students' personalized educational strategies.

Work together with peers to enhance instructional methods through shared best practices and innovative strategies.

Engage in ongoing professional development to remain up-to-date with cutting-edge special education techniques.

Keep detailed records and documentation to comply with school and district standards.

Qualifications Needed for the Role Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related discipline; a master's degree is preferred.

Active teaching certification in Special Education is mandatory.

Effective experience working with students facing a wide array of learning challenges, including learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral issues.

Solid understanding of special education laws and regulatory frameworks.

Capability to customize teaching methods to address different learning preferences.

Strong communication and collaboration skills for effective interaction with students, families, and colleagues.

Knowledge and use of behavior management strategies.

Adaptable and flexible to meet and respond to the varied needs of students.

Enthusiasm for using technology to improve educational delivery and assessment.

Experience in developing and applying IEPs with a detailed orientation.

Strong organizational and time management abilities.
