About the role

The assistant supports lead teachers in lesson preparation, classroom management, and student supervision for a 3-year-old program. They are responsible for maintaining a safe learning environment and working with students individually or in small groups.

We are looking for a part-time Preschool Teacher Assistant to join our Japanese Saturday School, specifically in the 3 year-old program for the 2026-2027 School Year and starting August 29th, 2026.

This role will be from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm on Saturdays (with 30 minute break) and reports into the Japanese Saturday School Director.

The ideal candidate will be compassionate and self-motivated as well as possessing an innate joy of working with young children.

He/she will be devoted to building a nurturing and safe learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting teachers with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment
  • Working with the lead teacher to monitor the class schedule
  • Going over lesson material with students individually or in small groups
  • Ensuring the classroom environment is safe, clean and tidy
  • Overseeing students during non-classroom times including in-between classes, during lunch, recess, and on-field excursions
  • Collaborating with lead teachers to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions
  • Helping lead teachers to create lesson plans
  • During camps, participating as an Lead Teacher
  • Complying with state, school, and class rules and regulations.
  • Attending all training classes, parent conferences, and faculty meetings
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field is preferred
  • Japanese fluency required
  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a teaching assistant or similar role
  • Solid understanding of classroom activities and teaching best practices
  • Must have a compassionate and positive attitude
  • Outstanding interpersonal and presentation abilities
  • Preferred candidate will have a current U.S. work visa, if applicable This role is paid at $28.52 per hour.

Requirements

Candidates must be fluent in Japanese and have at least 2 years of experience as a teaching assistant. A high school diploma is required, while a bachelor's degree in education or a relevant field is preferred.
