  • SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct supervision of children in an afterschool program. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall experience.

  • FUNCTIONS: 1. Supervises a group of children. 2. Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values. 3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. 4. Attends staff meetings and trainings. 5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. 6. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. 7. Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: Minimum age of 16. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with children, parents, and colleagues. Patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for working with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Availability to work flexible hours, including afternoons and evenings, as suits the program requirements. Previous experience working with children in a childcare, educational, or recreational setting preferred.

Certifications required within 60 days of employment: CPR, First Aid, AED, Oxygen.

Ability to complete the following within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention training; Bloodborne Pathogens and Sexual Harassment training. Passion for the YMCA mission and commitment to serving the community.

Physical

DEMANDS: Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching and lifting up to 50 lbs. at a time. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.

Requirements

Requires a minimum age of 16 with strong communication skills and a passion for serving the community. Must obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen certifications within 60 days of employment.
