- Position: Lead the development and implementation of specialized educational programs and activities within our SpEd classroom, tailored to meet the diverse needs of students with exceptionalities. The role will focus on creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students can explore, discover, and develop essential skills in alignment with their individualized education plans (IEPs). The Special Education Room Teacher plays a crucial role in promoting academic growth, social-emotional development, and independence among students with special needs.

- Development: Collaborate with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team to design and implement personalized learning experiences that address the unique needs and goals of students with exceptionalities. Modify curriculum materials and adapt instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles, sensory preferences, and abilities. Integrate assistive technologies, adaptive equipment, and specialized resources to support student learning and participation. Fulfill case manager responsibilities including developing and writing IEPs, holding meetings and maintaining required documentation

- Support: Provide direct instruction and individualized support to students with special needs, employing evidence-based practices and instructional techniques tailored to their strengths and challenges. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that promotes acceptance, empathy, and respect for all students. Implement behavior management strategies and interventions to address individualized needs and promote positive social interactions.

- Teamwork: Collaborate closely with special education colleagues, general education teachers, support staff, and related service providers to ensure a coordinated and cohesive approach to student support and instruction. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, parent conferences, and IEP reviews to assess student progress, set goals, and adjust instructional strategies as needed. Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers, providing regular updates on student performance, achievements, and areas of focus.

Conduct ongoing assessments and observations to evaluate student strengths, needs, and areas for growth. - Support: Implement behavior management strategies and interventions to address challenging behaviors and promote positive social skills development. Collaborate with school counselors, psychologists, and behavior specialists to develop behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students with significant behavioral needs. Provide support and guidance to students in developing self-regulation and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or related field (Master's degree preferred). Special education teaching certification/license (if required by state or country). Experience working with students with diverse exceptionalities, including but not limited to autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and emotional/behavioral disorders. Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices, including the development and implementation of IEPs. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and support professionals. Compassion, patience, and empathy for working with students with special needs. Organizational skills and attention to detail for managing individualized education plans, documentation, and progress monitoring. Commitment to promoting inclusivity, equity, and accessibility in the classroom environment. Working Conditions: The position involves regular interaction with students, colleagues, parents, and support professionals. Physical requirements include the ability to adapt teaching methods and environments to accommodate diverse student needs and mobility challenges.
