The Aquatic Instructor provides direct leadership and instruction for swimming classes while maintaining safe pool conditions. They are responsible for active surveillance, enforcing pool rules, and performing water quality checks.

Our Lansdowne YMCA is seeking an Aquatic Instructor with open availability.
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
1. Maintains active surveillance of the pool area while pool is in operation. Performs lifeguard duties with Lifeguard II and/or Head Lifeguard.
2. Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
3. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures. Completes related reports as required.
4. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff while enforcing pool rules and regulations.
5. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
6. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
7. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
8. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
9. Performs safety and program equipment checks and ensures equipment is available as needed.
10. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.

12. Completes accident/incident reports for any occurrences while on duty.
13. Maintains a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
14. Attends all staff meetings and in-service trainings.
15. Any other duties deemed necessary to ensure the success of the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.

Candidates must be at least 15 years old and hold current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications from the American Heart Association or Red Cross. Ability to meet physical demands for hearing, seeing, and lifting in an aquatic environment is required.
