The librarian will supervise the reference and circulation desk while teaching research skills to students in grades 6-12. They are also responsible for assisting faculty with independent research and fostering an inclusive learning environment aligned with Quaker values.
Westtown School seeks an experienced, student-centered librarian for a temporary, part-time leave replacement for approximately 13 weeks, September 21 through December 18, 2026. This is a part-time position with typical hours of 8:30 AM to 2:30 or 3:00 PM Monday through Friday.
The Mary Hutton Biddle Library at Westtown School serves 530 students in grades 6 - 12th, in an active, welcoming environment. Responsibilities will include supervising the reference/circulation desk; teaching research skills; and assisting students and faculty with independent research. Experience working with young adults in a school library setting and facility with digital citizenship and online searching are required.

Essential Responsibilities
Supervise the reference/circulation desk to support a library environment that encourages learning and fosters appropriate student conduct when using the library and its resources;
Familiarity with middle grade and young adult literature, information literacy and research skills, and instructional technology;
Support community members in their understanding of copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property;
Engage in decision-making aligned with Quaker process in service to the school community;
Contribute to building and sustaining an inclusive community and a program that reflects diverse cultures and perspectives;
Communicate effectively with all constituents – colleagues, administrators, parents, and students;
Other duties as assigned.

A bachelor's degree is required, with a preference for an advanced degree in Library Science and at least 3 years of relevant experience. Candidates must be proficient in Follett Destiny, Google Workspace, and learning management systems like Canvas.
