The Special Education Paraeducator provides instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities in accordance with their IEPs. Responsibilities include monitoring behavior intervention plans, assisting with classroom tasks, and collaborating with teachers and parents to ensure student success.
Provide assistance with: tests, homework, program reviews, reports, student files, schedules, and any other instructional program assignments as directed by the supervising teacher and in accordance with IEP Promotes student skill acquisition by teaching age-appropriate and functional replacement behaviors to students. Use a combination of approaches to address a student’s target behaviors in order to form and strengthen replacement behaviors. Provide a systematic process of studying and modifying observable behavior through a manipulation of the environment. The focus of this teaching method is to teach the child specific skills he/she needs to be successful with the goal that the child will learn and independently initiate acquired skills. Participates in individual student IEP meetings and prepares and presents appropriately as directed by the administrator. Completes and maintains required documentation for the school, students, and families. Monitor and support Behavior Intervention Plans Progress reporting on a daily basis and weekly behavior charting. Provide individual, small group services Build strong relationships with students and parents Establish an environment where students are excited about learning and preparing for the future. Collaborates with school staff in behavioral support Regular attendance, dependability and punctuality in conformance with the standards is essential to the successful performance of this position. Assists student (including physical assistance as needed) with fine motor tasks and mobility if needed Other responsibilities as assigned Desired Skills and Traits: Desire to continuously build professional knowledge Demonstrate support and knowledge of school's goals and mission Possession of patience, flexibility and the ability to work well as a collaborative team member Prior experience working with children in an educational or other structured setting Required Skills/Abilities: Experience with computers and software applications. Proficiency with or the ability to learn current software and equipment. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Minimum Requirements: Associates degree or minimum 1-2 years of experience in related field Physical demands: Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects Occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping and reaching for extended periods of time Physical ability to bend over, squat, stand and sit for periods of time, and move with some speed Occasional computer work including but not limited to typing Compensation & Benefits: This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated educator to assume a fundamental role in an innovative school environment.
