The Athenian School seeks two part-time coaches to help develop our Junior Varsity Volleyball team with the primary aim of ensuring an accessible, equitable, inclusive and competitive experience for all participants.This candidate will help student-athletes to develop good sportsmanship, become positive role models, stress team over individual achievement, and promote overall team success and values.
This person will work collaboratively with the Athletics Department, other coaches, faculty and staff to nurture participation and growth from all athletes. Responsibilities include practice plans, game management, statistics management, and program coordination and communication with coaches, parents, student-athletes, faculty and staff. Coaches manage uniform and team equipment needs, post match results to the website, and manage the team website. Must be available for practice during weekdays from 3:00-6:00pm and travel with team to away matches departing as early as 2:00pm and returning as late as 9:00pm.
As our JV Head Coach, you will take the lead in cultivating an accessible, equitable, inclusive, and competitive team experience.
Foster a High-Belonging Team Culture: Inspire student-athletes to prioritize sportsmanship, team success, and mutual respect over individual accolades. You’ll create an environment where every player grows, regardless of starting level.
Design & Direct Practices: Plan and execute engaging, skill-focused practice plans (weekdays 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM) that balance fundamental skill-building with game strategy.
Lead Match Days: Manage team logistics for home and away matches (departing as early as 2:00 PM and returning as late as 9:00 PM), modeling poise, leadership, and positive sporting behavior on the bench.
Own Program Operations: Handle statistics, match results, and team web updates, maintaining clear, proactive communication with parents, athletes, faculty, and athletic directors.
Collaborate Across Campus: Work hand-in-hand with the varsity coaching staff, athletic administration, and school faculty to support the holistic growth of student-athletes.
