Maureen Joy Charter School is seeking a 2nd Grade Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. A degree in Elementary Education or a related field is preferred. Hold or be eligible for a valid teaching certification in elementary education. Proven experience in classroom teaching at the elementary level. Strong understanding of state standards and curriculum frameworks. Ability to utilize diverse and effective teaching methods.

  • Key Responsibilities Execute a rigorous, standards-based curriculum, constantly thinking about how to scaffold learning to make it both challenging and joyful.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate lessons that promote comprehensive student learning.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans/internalization guides for feedback from your Instructional Coach, incorporating this feedback to enhance the rigor and joy in your lessons.
  • Use a daily data analysis cycle during class, as well as weekly and unit-level reviews, to track and meet ambitious student goals.
  • Analyze and utilize classroom data to refine lessons and systems, ensuring maximum effectiveness and student engagement as well as timely feedback for students.
  • Participate actively in professional development sessions, regular observations, and feedback conversations to continuously improve teaching practices.
  • Engage in weekly lesson internalization and grade-level team meetings.
  • Implement school-wide systems and routines to create a cohesive and aligned classroom culture.
  • Create and maintain a classroom atmosphere that encourages active learning, engagement, and participation from all students.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, parents, and stakeholders to support student success.
  • Implement classroom management strategies that ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
  • The Strongest Candidates Will Have Excellent content knowledge of grade-level standards as well as early literacy and math practices.
  • A proactive attitude and an innovative approach to teaching and learning.
  • Experience with technology integration in the classroom.
  • The ability to differentiate instruction based on the diverse needs of students.
  • A track record of facilitating student achievement through student and/or class-level data.
  • Openness and enthusiasm about applying feedback to enhance practice.
  • A joyful and warm approach to students, passionately embracing the academic and emotional needs of each student daily.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Adept at problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of child development and effective teaching strategies for this age group.
  • Skill in fostering a collaborative and professional learning environment.
  • A proven ability to implement data-driven instruction and decision-making.
  • In This Role, You Will Get to Receive coaching and guidance from an instructional coach to enhance teaching strategies and classroom management.
  • Build foundational literacy skills through a science of reading-based approach.
  • Engage in lesson internalization to deepen understanding of educational content and pedagogical techniques.
  • Develop proficiency and prowess with our curriculum, ensuring it is effectively delivered and tailored to meet student needs.
  • Influence the lives of students by providing a transformative educational experience.
  • Collaborate with a dedicated team of educators who values professional development and innovation.
  • Engage with a diverse school community and participate in various school activities and initiatives.

Other Essential Responsibilities Assist in various school duties, including arrival, lunch, dismissal, and recess as needed. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and professional development sessions. Engage in continuous professional growth to improve teaching and learning. Ensure compliance with school policies and regulatory requirements.

Reporting Structure You will report directly to the Primary (K-2) School Assistant Principal

Miscellaneous Participation in extracurricular activities such as clubs, sports, or after-school tutoring is encouraged. Flexibility to take on axillary roles within the school as needed to support overall student engagement and success.
