  • Practice starts on different days at the earliest 4:30 pm and ends by 7 pm Monday-Friday and attend the swim meets which take place various weekends throughout the season.

As a key member of the Aquatics team, a Swim Team Coach teaches both youth and their parents pool safety and swimming techniques and is responsible for proactive communication and maintaining a safe pool atmosphere while preventing accidents. The main purpose of this position is to provide a positive role model for members and to create a character-developing atmosphere. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Uphold the Mission of the YMCA Plan practice workouts prior to start of practice. Arrive 15 minutes prior to practices Maintain all required certifications and attend all staff meetings required by Head Swim Coach Able to communicate & available to parents for any questions or concerns that may arise Encourage team members to clean up equipment after practice to keep pool area clean and tidy Reports to Aquatics Program Director and Head Swim Team Coach PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time Ability to hear, see, speak Noise level- High Exposure to indoor/outdoor elements Must be able to remain alert Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations Must be able to remain in water for long periods of time Lift at least 25 pounds QualificationsPOSITION REQUIREMENTS: Minimum age of 18. Team player with personal commitment to YMCA Mission, Philosophy & Character Development Values. People centered; service oriented. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Previous competitive swimming experience required Comfortable working with a large group of children from the pool deck and demonstrating from in and outside the pool Attend all swim meets and coordinate parent volunteers as needed throughout the season. Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification. (YMCA can provide certification or crossover course) Additional certifications to be obtained: Safety Training for Swim Coach’s, YMCA Principles and Safe Sport certification USA Coaching credentials may be required if the coach wishes to pursue being USA Swimming Certified

Requirements

Candidates must be at least 18 years old with previous competitive swimming experience and hold Lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications. A high school education and a commitment to YMCA values are required.
