  • About the
  • Program: The Early Childhood Education (ECE) program is an Early Head Start and Head Start program that services children, ages birth to 5 years of age, and their families. Our program supports school readiness by focusing on health, mental health, nutrition, family engagement and social/emotional development. All of our Early Childhood Education services are free to eligible families.
  • Role
  • Summary: This position as a Teacher assists in facilitating and implementing individual and group activities to support children’s social, physical, and intellectual development. Responsibilities include planning, assessing, and developing responsive curriculum activities tailored to each child’s developmental needs and learning approach. The Teacher collaborates with co-teachers to stimulate learning and maintain a safe, clean, and healthy environment that encourages exploration and growth. Additionally, the Teacher is responsible for completing educational assessments, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the inclusion of children with Individual Family Development Plans (IFSPs). They actively promote parent engagement by supporting parents in their role as primary educators, enhancing their involvement in their child’s school readiness and development.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide diapering, dressing, and personal care for toddlers while maintaining a clean and hygienic environment. Nurture children through activities that support their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. Implement curriculum and daily classroom planning; observe, assess, and document child development to create individualized goals based on each child’s needs and strengths. Collaborate with staff to support families by integrating resources across parent involvement, social services, nutrition, health, and mental health. Maintain accurate records, conduct regular screenings, and support school-readiness by reinforcing parents’ roles as primary educators. Collaborates with Co-Teacher and Child & Family Service Advocate (CFSA) to engage families, provide resources, and support parents as primary educators through home visits, conferences, and daily communication. Maintains accurate attendance, activity, and assessment records, including anecdotal notes and data entry into systems such as Child Plus. Participates in daily planning, documentation, and classroom management in coordination with the Co-Teacher. Supports the integration of comprehensive Head Start services (e.g., health, mental health, nutrition, social services, and parent involvement) into classroom learning experiences.

Qualifications

A minimum of an Associate of Arts (AA) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in early childhood education, child development, or related field required One year of experience as a student intern, tutor, or instructional assistant working in an educational setting with pre-elementary school children is strongly preferred A minimum of 3 Infant/Toddler Development course units, preferred California Teaching Commission Child Development Associate Teacher permit preferred If no permit is held, a professional development plan will be put in place to ensure the pathway to obtain the permit. Requirements

Candidates must have at least an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field. One year of experience in a pre-elementary educational setting and a California Teaching Commission Child Development Associate Teacher permit are strongly preferred.
