About the role

The role involves assisting in the coaching, training, and skill development of track and field student-athletes to prepare them for competition. Additionally, the coach supports recruiting efforts, academic monitoring, and the maintenance of relationships with alumni and donors.

Primary purpose

The primary duties are to assist in team coaching, teaching, training, and individual student-athlete skill development, to prepare the team for competition.

Other duties include, but are not limited to:

Assists in monitoring academic, social, and personal development of track and field student-athletes. Assists in identifying and recruiting academically and athletically talented students for the track and field program.

Assists in promotion and development of program by creating and maintaining effective relationships with alumni, donors, and community members.

Assists in the planning and implementation of camps and clinics.

Participates in events as a representative of the athletics department and track program.

Maintains knowledge and remains current regarding all appropriate NAIA, The Sun Conference, Department of Athletics, and University compliance issues, policies, and procedures.

The assistant coach will adhere to all guidelines and regulations set forth by the Sun Conference, NAIA and Ave Maria University.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required

Previous track and field experience required.

Physical skills and abilities

Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to teach the fundamentals of the sport, coach practices, games; and the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 - 50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a telephone, computer keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information.

Working conditions

Work is performed indoors and outdoors with potential for outdoor exposure to high temperatures, and safety and health hazards related to sport and weight room training.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree and previous track and field experience are required. Candidates must possess the physical ability to coach practices and lift between 10 to 50 pounds.
