The Secondary Teacher delivers high school-level instruction in a content area, preparing students for academic achievement, career readiness, and postsecondary success.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required
Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate secondary subject-area endorsement, or eligibility for certification through the Michigan State Board of Education
Candidates who do not yet hold a Michigan teaching certificate may qualify through enrollment in GEE's Career Advancement Program (CAP), which provides a supported pathway to Michigan certification. CAP eligibility is determined at the time of application.
Satisfactory criminal background check
Core responsibilities: Teach rigorous, standards-aligned courses in the assigned subject area
Use assessment data to inform instruction and track student progress toward graduation requirements
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs across the classroom
Build strong academic relationships with students and maintain a structured learning environment
Collaborate with colleagues on cross-curricular planning and vertical alignment
Communicate regularly with students, families, and counselors on progress and next steps
Engage in professional development and continuous improvement of instructional practice
Must be able to perform the physical demands of the role, including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, and standing for extended periods. Work environment includes elevated noise levels.
