  • Shift: VariableThe group exercise instructor must be high energy, motivating and a relationship builder who will help people reach their goals through exercise while having fun. Essential Functions Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals. Creates a welcoming class environment for all fitness levels and encourages and motivates class members. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective information and support to members. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA. Keeps accurate class attendance records. Attends required training sessions, workshops and staff meetings. Participates in master classes, fundraising and other special events. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations. QualificationsAppropriate certifications for classes taught Other certifications as required by the Y CPR/FA/AED/02 (ASHI) required within 30 days of hire Instructor experience preferred Strong communication and social media skills Knowledge and understanding of YMCA mission and philosophy preferred Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to demonstrate class exercises and stand or walk the majority of the class; the employee is frequently required to push, pull, balance, bend, twist, squat, kneel and reach; the employee must frequently lift and or move objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and or move objects up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to see, hear and talk. The employee may be exposed to moving parts of exercise equipment and cleaning supplies (chemicals) for wiping down exercise equipment. The work environment includes the wellness center, with some possible outdoor exposure during the workday. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers and fax machines.
