About the role

The role involves creating and implementing rigorous math and reading intervention programs for struggling students in 1:1 or small group settings. The interventionist is responsible for analyzing student data to plan instruction and collaborating with teachers to close achievement gaps.

Position Title

Math Interventionist - Upper School Location: Great Hearts Invictus Upper School Reports To: Headmaster FLSA Status: Salaried-Exempt

Position Summary

To create a rigorous intervention program for students who have been identified as requiring math and reading interventions for struggling students, Tier II and Tier III interventions, and to support universal screenings, data entry, and data teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provides direct instruction to students identified as eligible for math services in 1:1 and/or small group settings. Develops a student-centered system of intervention that effectively works to close the achievement gap in mathematics and reading. Ensures that students master grade level standards and curriculum Creates a classroom environment and research-based program of study that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Demonstrates knowledge of scientifically based mathematics and reading instruction. Uses a variety of manipulatives and hands-on activities to support content standards and meet the needs and capabilities of students Effectively analyzes/uses data and conducts student assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, plan instruction, and assist staff members in learning various assessment techniques. Monitors and assesses student progress on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Maintains confidential files, records, and documents Understands how to use technology for instructional planning, i.e. creating reports and using data to plan lessons. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects using formal and informal assessment data. Communicates and collaborates with classroom teachers to ensure alignment between classroom instruction and interventions. Completes other duties as assigned Establishes and maintains open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Reading, Literacy, Education, Mathematics, or a related field Valid Texas teaching certification in Reading, Literacy, Mathematics, or a related area preferred 3 years of experience teaching students reading and mathematics in a K-12 school setting Knowledge of Algebra I and Algebra II preferred for upper school position Preferred experience: Three (3) years successful teaching experience Required/Preferred Skills: Able to collaborate with many teachers, coaches, and administrators Physical Functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately. US Work Authorization Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements. Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities. This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions. Requirements

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field and preferably a valid Texas teaching certification. At least 3 years of K-12 teaching experience is required, with knowledge of Algebra I and II preferred.
