  • Summary: Muhlenberg College, a Division III institution and a member of the Centennial Conference, is seeking applications for a part-time Assistant Softball Coach (PT-Fall Only). This specialized position focuses exclusively on athletic performance enhancement. The successful candidate will be a speed and agility specialist responsible for elevating the team’s running mechanics, acceleration, change-of-direction ability, and explosiveness. Candidates with strength and conditioning experience and a four-year college degree are preferred.

  • Responsibilities: Coaching and Athletic Development Under the general direction of the head coach, lead specialized speed, agility, and explosiveness training for the softball team during the fall season. Attend 1-2 practices per week in the fall to deliver high-quality, targeted sessions focused on running form and mechanics, acceleration, agility, and explosive power. Design and implement individualized and position-specific drills that enhance base running, defensive quickness, and overall athletic performance. Collaborate with the head coach to integrate athletic development into the team’s fall training plan. Track player progress and performance metrics to ensure measurable gains in speed and explosiveness. General Athletic/Team Operations Support the head coach in advancing the program’s goal of becoming one of the fastest and most explosive teams in the country. Attend meetings and training as required by the head coach and Athletics department. May perform other duties related to athletic performance as assigned. Student-Athlete Community Relations Help foster a culture of athletic excellence and commitment to continuous improvement among student-athletes.

Qualifications

While no one person may possess all the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional experiences and characteristics: Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, strength and conditioning, physical education, or a closely related field (Master’s degree preferred). Specialized experience designing and leading speed, agility, and explosiveness training programs, preferably with softball, baseball, or other fast-twitch athletes. Demonstrated expertise in running mechanics, acceleration, change-of-direction, and plyometric training. Excellent communication and motivational skills with the ability to inspire collegiate student-athletes. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in tracking athletic performance. Ability to work flexible fall practice hours (1-2 sessions per week). This position is not eligible for relocation assistance or employer-sponsored immigration support.
