Practice for this role

About the role

Assist lead teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate curricula and providing individualized support to children of all abilities. Maintain a safe, organized classroom environment and provide ongoing communication to families regarding child development.

Build Something Bigger — And Change Lives, Including Your Own.

In 1935, Louise Whitbeck Fraser opened a school in her home for people with disabilities — defying social expectations and choosing compassion over convention.

She believed everyone deserves the chance to reach their potential and thrive.

Today, that same bold spirit is alive in every Fraser service.

We’re still building something bigger — a more inclusive, connected world where everyone belongs.

At Fraser, you’ll find more than a job.

You’ll find purpose.

You’ll find growth.

And you’ll find a place where your work changes lives — including your own.

Help children learn, grow, and belong.

What if your classroom was a place where every child was welcomed, supported, and celebrated for who they are?

At Fraser School, we believe children learn best when they learn and play together.

Our inclusive classrooms brings typically developing children and children with special needs together to build friendships, develop confidence, and discover the world around them.

Fraser School serves children from 6 weeks old through kindergarten.

As an Assistant Teacher, you’ll play an important role in creating that experience every day. You’ll work alongside our Lead Teachers to create engaging learning experiences, build meaningful relationships with children and families, and help create a classroom where every child feels a sense of belonging.

What You'll Do

Partner with the Lead Teacher to plan and provide engaging, developmentally appropriate activities that support children's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development.

Build positive, nurturing relationships with children and create a classroom environment where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to learn.

Provide individualized support to children of all abilities and help adapt activities to meet their developmental needs.

Encourage children to learn, play, communicate, and build relationships with one another.

Communicate with families about their child's experiences, development, and accomplishments.

Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom.

Assist with classroom documentation and observations of children's development.

Work collaboratively with your classroom team through respectful communication and shared responsibilities.

Support and welcome new team members as they join the classroom.

Follow Fraser School policies and applicable licensing and accreditation requirements.

Step into the Lead Teacher role when needed, including helping coordinate classroom activities and curriculum in the Lead Teacher's absence.

What We're Looking For

Some post-secondary coursework or credits in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a related field is required

A genuine interest in working with young children and supporting their development.

A commitment to creating an inclusive environment where every child and family feels welcomed and respected.

The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Commitment to promoting diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion with a focus on culturally responsive practice, internal self-awareness, and reflection.

CPR and First Aid certification, which Fraser provides.
