Student Worker - Recreation & Wellness Group Fitness Instructor (Work-Study or Non-Work Study)

Job Description

Group fitness instructors will lead members in a group environment, though safe and effective fitness classes for Recreation & Wellness. This position is responsible for providing group exercise instruction and supervision in variety of formats. Candidates must be able to instruct multiple fitness levels and ensure the safety of all patrons in the class. This person will enforce all building policies pertaining to group exercise and be able to communicate these to a diverse group of patrons why policies are in place. The instructor will serve as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness & wellness and are responsible in ensuring that safety of the members is not compromised. A group fitness instructor will act as a role model and resource for all patrons. General Duties: Provide group fitness instruction & coaching Instruct a variety of group exercise classes. Monitors and educates patrons on fitness and safety Maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for class participants Instruct a variety of group exercise classes. Possess knowledge of fitness equipment and exercises

Duties

Teach scheduled/assigned classes Arrive at class 15 minutes early to prepare and set up. Begin & end classes on time while providing adequate warm-up, conditioning, and cool-down phases of the workout/class/program Instruct patrons on effective workout methods; explain & demonstrate proper form and technique Prepare each class with proper music and choreography Assist class participants, answer questions, and create a positive exercise experience Inform supervisor/management of customer and facility needs Ensure that safety standards are met and that policies are adhered to. Act in a professional manner by upholding SRWC policy when involved in conflict management with patrons, students, and staff. Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the room and equipment. Actively market and promote other group fitness classes and programs. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies that include the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing techniques, and rhythm Ability to be professional and motivate class participants Ability to work closely and cooperate with other staff members.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age Willing to complete in-house CPR training Willing to complete in-house Group Fitness Instructor training Transferable Skills · Teaching a group of patrons · Patron Supervision · Oral and Communication Skills · Customer Service · Multi-Tasking · Policy Enforcement · First Aid/CPR/Responder · Public Speaking/Presenting · Time Management · Working with Diverse Salary and Hours Students are paid the current minimum wage for Maryland. Students will work a total of eight (8) hours per week. Full Time/Part Time: Part time

Requirements

Candidates must be at least 18 years old and willing to complete in-house CPR and Group Fitness Instructor training. Knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and group teaching strategies is required.
