About the role

Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining a safe environment in the pool area by enforcing facility rules and preventing accidents. They must be prepared to perform water rescues, first aid, CPR, and use an AED during emergencies.

Job Description

Lifeguards provide a safe environment for everyone using the pool.

Responsibilities

The lifeguard will: Maintain a safe environment in the pool area to prevent accidents, injuries, and incidents. Uphold the highest safety standards. Enforce the aquatic and facility rules and policies. Perform water rescues as necessary. Perform first aid as necessary. Perform CPR as necessary. Be responsible for all scheduled hours and must find a substitute if unable to work. If the employee cannot secure a replacement, they are expected to cover the shift. Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding. Prior experience is preferred. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform this job's functions and responsibilities successfully. Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to meet these demands. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand, walk, balance, stoop, use the hands to move equipment and reach with the hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift and move objects weighing 20 lbs. The employee must be prepared to perform water rescues, remove a victim from the water, perform First Aid, CPR, and use an AED. The employee must be able to direct other staff members and bystanders to assist in the event of an emergency. The employee must possess an appropriate degree of energy for their duties. The employee must be able to project their voice over the noise of the pool so that the swimmers can hear any necessary instructions. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee will encounter while performing the functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to meet these demands. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The employee will be exposed to wet and dry conditions, pool chemical fumes, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the pool area is usually in the mid-range with excessive echoing. Salary and Hours Students are paid the current minimum wage for Maryland. Students will work a total of eight (8) hours per week. Full Time/Part Time: Part time
