About the role

The Group Leader will supervise school-age children in a safe and inclusive environment while facilitating games and homework assistance. They are also responsible for mentoring staff, promoting YMCA core values, and ensuring compliance with program regulations.

Position Summary

Schedule: Monday - Friday 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm or 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Our Saugus YMCA in Saugus Massachusetts is looking for great Group Leaders for the Saugus Y Academy Out-of-School Time program, including supervision of the program to provide children and families high quality care in a safe and inclusive environment. Play games, help with homework, and inspire others! We will train you!

Essential functions

Act as a mentor and resource for site staff to maintain a positive program climate.

Ensure the use of positive behavior guidance among program staff.

Assist with Lead enrollment, recruitment, and retention of students & families along with Program Administrator.

Promotes and incorporates the YMCA four core values and relevant trainings into all aspects of work, including curriculum, program, and staff and parent/youth interactions.

Work in camp during the summer months (if possible!) adhering to DPH regulations.

Preferred qualifications/Requirements

  • 1.
  • High school or equivalent preferred 2.
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • 3.
  • Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community 4.
  • Ability to lead, teach, and interact with children, staff, teachers, parents/guardians, and the school community 5.
  • Knowledge of and ability to facilitate Early Education & Care (EEC) regulations (we will train!) 6.
  • Applicants must be available during school vacation weeks

Physical demands

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities.

Additional application requirements

An annual physical confirmed by a physician’s statement, including documentation of 2 MMR immunizations.

Clean criminal record check. (Must be able to pass an EEC Background Records Check prior to working directly with children.)

Verification of education and work experience for Position.

Completion of the DEEC Online Orientation Course for new educators within first 30 days of hire

Completion of Redwoods Online Trainings within first 30 days of hire.

Complete First Aid and CPR certifications within the first 30 days of hire.

Coordinator qualified by Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) regulations
