  • Summary: The YMCA focus is to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the general direction of the Family Life Director, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with the overall program, supervising children, and managing the day-to-day operation of the Kindergarten Readiness Program. The incumbent delivers a quality experience to children and parents focused on the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Essential
  • Functions: Ensure the individual needs of the children are met for proper coordination of the program within the branch. Utilize solid judgment and discretionary skills and make independent decisions affecting the program. Maintain positive relationships with many diverse people, including staff, parents, volunteers, and program site administration, and demonstrate strong public relations skills. Ensure YMCA policies and guidelines are followed at all times. Maintain an environment that ensures children’s safety and well-being. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that advance all areas of children’s development and learning, including social, emotional, intellectual, and physical competence. Conduct the program in accordance with YMCA goals and principles of developmentally appropriate practices. Adheres to program standards, including safety and cleanliness standards. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Attends all staff meetings and required training programs. Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
  • Employees and volunteers who directly supervise children and teens will: Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children and teens Attend required abuse risk management training annually Adhere to procedures for managing high-risk activities and supervising children and teens. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • QualificationsMinimum
  • Requirements: A four-year degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent experience is preferred. Minimum age of 19 years old. Previous experience working with children preferred. Successful completion of background and Child Abuse and Neglect screening.

  • Demands: Ability to plan, lead, and participate in a range of activities in various outdoor and indoor settings. Ability to be physically active, including, but not limited to, walking, sitting, squatting, standing, kneeling, climbing, running, lifting, pushing, pulling, etc. Must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the job's essential functions.

Requirements

Candidates should have a four-year degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent experience and be at least 19 years old. Applicants must also successfully complete background and Child Abuse and Neglect screenings.
