About the role

The Registered Dental Hygienist provides comprehensive preventive and therapeutic dental care while instructing and mentoring dental students in a clinical academic setting. Responsibilities include performing oral health assessments, managing patient records, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Position Summary

Yeshiva University announces its new College of Dental Medicine and is hiring new faculty and staff to support the school. The curriculum integrates Digital Dentistry techniques taught by today’s dental thought leaders and master clinicians. The school provides a unique 36-month dental education program through an innovative “Block” style curriculum which ensures in-depth learning and understanding. The Registered Dental Hygienist, Complex Care Practice is a faculty position responsible for providing comprehensive preventive and therapeutic dental hygiene services while supporting the educational, clinical, and service missions of the YUCDM. The position combines direct patient care along with instruction, supervision, mentoring, and evaluation of dental students in a comprehensive academic clinical environment.

Responsibilities

include comprehensive oral health assessments, preventive dental care, non-surgical periodontal therapy, radiographic procedures, digital diagnostics, patient education, recall management, and compliance with New York State laws, accepted standards of practice, and University policies.

Position Responsibilities

  • Clinical Patient Care
  • Conduct the initial hygiene and diagnostic evaluation for all new Complex Care patients by obtaining baseline clinical data, including comprehensive oral health assessments, periodontal evaluations, caries risk assessments, oral cancer screenings, annual and diagnostic digital radiographs, digital intraoral scans, and comprehensive periodontal charting to support diagnosis and interdisciplinary treatment planning.
  • Provide comprehensive preventive and therapeutic dental hygiene services, including dental prophylaxis, periodontal maintenance, scaling and root planing, administration of local anesthesia, placement of locally delivered antimicrobial agents, pit and fissure sealants, coronal polishing, topical fluoride applications, whitening procedures, and other preventive and therapeutic procedures.
  • Establish and maintain periodontal health through debridement, periodontal assessments, and recommending appropriate maintenance and follow-up care.
  • Promote exceptional patient-centered care by educating patients on oral hygiene, disease prevention, nutrition, tobacco cessation, and home care, and fostering a positive clinical experience.
  • Audit patient records regularly to identify individuals overdue for recall exams or hygiene appointments.
  • Collaborate with the front office to assist in scheduling patients due for appointments.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely clinical documentation of patient assessments in accordance with regulatory and institutional requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain operatories, equipment, instruments, and clinical materials.
  • Successfully complete all required OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens and safety training, perform duties involving occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials in accordance with OSHA and CDC guidelines, and maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the educational, clinical, and service missions of the College.
  • Integrated Didactic and Clinical Instruction
  • Participate in the integrated delivery of didactic, preclinical, laboratory, and clinical instruction.
  • Assist in the preparation, organization, and delivery of educational materials, laboratory exercises, clinical demonstrations, and instructional activities.
  • Reinforce evidence-based dental hygiene principles, preventive dentistry, infection prevention, and patient-centered care.
  • Support the development of students' clinical reasoning, critical thinking, and professional judgment.
  • Educational Standards and Clinical Training
  • Provide direct clinical instruction and supervision of dental students during patient care.
  • Assist in student evaluations, counseling, competency assessments, and clinical performance feedback.
  • Participate in student and faculty calibration exercises.
  • Support curriculum implementation, accreditation, quality assurance, and continuous quality improvement.

Serve as a faculty mentor and clinical resource to dental students.

Provide guidance and constructive feedback to foster clinical competency and professional growth.

Collaborate with faculty to support student success and the educational mission of the College.

Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.

Experience & Educational Background

  • BS Dental Hygiene or Allied Health Sciences degree required.
  • NYS Registered Dental Hygienist License required.
  • Basic Life Support/ CPR Certification required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of hygiene experience.
  • Teaching, clinical instruction, student supervision preferred.
  • Experience with dental practice management system.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical education support, faculty practice oversight, and compliance with CODA and institutional accreditation standards.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, and laws/regulations pertaining to the practice of dentistry in New York State.

Skills & Competencies

  • Comprehensive knowledge of preventive dentistry, periodontal therapy, radiography, and evidence-based practice.
  • Knowledge of NYS Dental Hygiene Practice Act, OSHA, CDC guidelines, HIPAA, and institutional policies.
  • Excellent communication, instructional, mentoring, and patient education skills.
