Do you enjoy coaching, teaching new skills, and helping kids discover a lifelong love of movement and healthy living? If so, the YMCA of the North Shore is looking for you! As a Sports Specialist, you'll play an important role in delivering high-quality sports programming while helping expand enrichment opportunities for children across our YMCA school-age programs. Approximately 50% of this role is dedicated to planning and implementing engaging sports and enrichment activities at our school-age childcare sites, giving children opportunities to stay active, build confidence, and develop new skills beyond the traditional school day. The remaining time will focus on supporting YMCA sports programs, including leagues, classes, camps, clinics, vacation programs, and special events. Every day offers something different, making this an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, creativity, and working directly with youth. What You'll Do Sports Programming & Youth Engagement Lead engaging sports classes, leagues, camps, clinics, vacation programs, and special events for youth of all ages. Deliver association-approved curriculum that promotes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence. Stay current on sports trends and introduce new ideas to keep programming fun, engaging, and relevant. School-Age Enrichment Programming Spend approximately 50% of your time developing and implementing sports and enrichment activities at YMCA school-age childcare locations. Create age-appropriate enrichment experiences that encourage physical activity, teamwork, creativity, and healthy lifestyles. Travel between YMCA school-age program sites to provide consistent, high-quality programming. Collaborate with school-age staff to ensure activities are engaging, inclusive, and aligned with YMCA standards. Member & Community Engagement Build positive relationships with children, families, members, and participants through exceptional customer service. Communicate effectively with parents regarding program schedules, goals, and participant progress. Foster relationships with local schools, community organizations, and partners to help expand youth programming opportunities. Program Operations & Support Assist with scheduling classes, rentals, clinics, and lessons to maximize participation and facility usage. Help coordinate staffing needs and assist with coverage when necessary. Support onboarding and training of new sports staff as directed by the Sports Director. Maintain required certifications and assist with supply inventory and equipment needs. Safety & Facility Excellence Ensure all program spaces are clean, organized, safe, and welcoming. Enforce YMCA safety policies and procedures while providing quality supervision. Report equipment or facility concerns promptly to leadership. QualificationsWhat We're Looking For We're looking for an energetic, creative, and dependable professional who is passionate about youth development, sports, and creating meaningful enrichment experiences for children. Qualifications Minimum of two (2) years of experience leading youth programs, sports instruction, recreation, camps, after-school programs, or other child-focused activities. Experience planning and delivering engaging enrichment activities for school-age children is preferred. Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Education, Sports Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered. Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage children, families, and diverse populations. Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing schedules, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently while collaborating as part of a team. Current CPR and First Aid Certification required or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Must obtain and maintain all YMCA-required certifications and trainings applicable to the position. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to actively participate in sports instruction and enrichment activities, including running, bending, reaching, kneeling, lifting, and standing for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry, and move sports equipment and program supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to travel between YMCA branches and school-age program sites to deliver enrichment programming. Ability to visually observe program participants and respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, depending on program needs. Ability to remain physically and mentally alert while supervising children and responding calmly in unexpected situations. Requirements
