UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing is seeking a casual Instructor to join our expanding team.

We welcome candidates with an BSN, enrollment in a MSN program with a 3-year completion plan, and 3 years of clinical experience.

Final job title will reflect your education, experience, and manager discretion.

The individual hired into this role provide clinical instruction to both the part-time and full-time SHY SON programs; the instructor will be required to teach evenings and every other weekend throughout the academic year.

About Us: The mission of UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing is to prepare entry-level graduate nurses for practice within an interprofessional healthcare team.

The school is part of UPMC Shadyside, which is part of the UPMC health system.

The focus of our program is mastery of high-level competencies reflecting the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for the delivery of safe, quality nursing care.

Key Responsibilities: Promote the organization’s mission and values, modeling professional communication and teamwork within healthcare.

Foster a respectful, inclusive learning environment that supports diverse student needs and faculty development.

Effectively manage conflicts and coach students on cultural diversity and civility.

Maintain active professional nursing memberships and pursue ongoing education for growth.

Use feedback from peers and students to improve teaching and share expertise with colleagues.

Lead and participate in school committees, promoting innovative educational practices.

Keep current with nursing knowledge and provide resources to support diverse learners.

Build positive relationships with students, faculty, management, patients, and healthcare teams.

Apply critical thinking to guide student learning and clinical judgment.

Deliver quality classroom and clinical instruction, create meaningful assignments, and demonstrate expertise.

Contribute to policy development and use evidence-based teaching strategies.

Encourage critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills development.

Engage in quality improvement projects, scholarly work, and program evaluation to enhance student performance.

Support educational change initiatives and demonstrate leadership across nursing schools.

Serve as a professional role model and co-chair committees as assigned.

BSN required MSN program enrollment with 3-year completion plan 3 years of clinical practice Precepting experience required; clinical teaching experience in prelicensure program preferred Previous teaching experience preferred.

Certified Nurse Educator certification preferred.

Appointment to this position and retention of this position is contingent upon the approval of the PA State Board of Nursing.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.

Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.

Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

UPMC-approved certification, preferred.

CPR Certification for BLS for Health Care Providers.

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire Act 33 with renewal Act 34 with renewal Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran

Requirements

Candidates must hold a BSN and be enrolled in an MSN program with a 3-year completion plan, along with 3 years of clinical practice experience. Current Pennsylvania RN licensure, BLS certification, and relevant background clearances are required for the position.
