About the role

The instructor is responsible for delivering nursing curriculum, facilitating student learning through classroom and clinical instruction, and evaluating student progress. They must also maintain course materials, adhere to accreditation standards, and utilize the learning management system for course administration.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understands and adheres to all System and College policies, as well as all policies and procedures within the Faculty Handbook.
  • Understands and adheres to all laws pertaining to disclosure of student records and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Understands and adheres to the professional scope, standards, codes, rules, and regulations of the Professional Governing Bodies, including but not limited to American Nurses Association, Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN), Nurses Code of Ethics, and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
  • Responsible to ensure course materials are prepared using evidence-based resources (textbooks, instructional aids, online resources, and materials) and the most recent NCLEX test plan published by NCSBN.
  • Maintain current with NCLEX changes.
  • Utilizes Canvas, the Learning Management System (LMS), for posting teaching material, assignments, and grades, ensuring it is organized and available to students.
  • Utilizes established testing platform to administer exams.
  • Course time organized to be accomplished in the allotted time.
  • Instruction provided to individual students and groups appropriate to the needs and requirements of activities being performed.
  • Attends class on time and if unable to attend, notifies the Dean of Nursing, Program Coordinator, and students and ensures alternate method of course delivery is available for students, if applicable.
  • Able to deliver course content in a clear, concise manner that enhances student learning, and communicates effectively.
  • Facilitates online activities and communication.
  • Responsible for directing, evaluating, and reporting student progress toward course outcomes.
  • Administer and grade exams and assignments.
  • Reviews and updates course materials and/or books annually or as needed, making recommendations to the Program Coordinator.
  • Accepts and completes assigned tasks and duties related to the requirements to maintain program accreditation.
  • Contributes to academic and clinical content for curriculum planning and development of student experience.

Required Education

Master's degree in Nursing Maintain a current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in Louisiana or one of the Compact Member States; Meet faculty qualifications through LSBN and clinical agencies

Required Experience

Two years’ nursing experience in concentration hired to teach (Medical-Surgical; Maternal Child; Pediatrics; Mental Health)

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Nursing and possess a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Louisiana or a Compact state. A minimum of two years of nursing experience in a relevant concentration is required.
