About the role

The Math Specialist provides small group and one-on-one math instruction to students in grades K-8 to improve their math competency. They are also responsible for maintaining accurate student data, tracking progress, and providing emotional support.

  • Schedule: Must have availability to work Monday through Friday except for parent-teacher conference days and 6 designated early dismissal days; will work either 3 days per week at 5 hours per workday or 5 days per week at 3 hours per workday, depending upon the needs of the assigned school. Also includes 5 designated days of professional development.

For the 2026-2027 school year, the program runs from August 2026, through the end of May 2027. (Not to exceed 174 days of instruction).

GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Math Specialist works with kindergarten through eighth grade in small groups to improve their math skills. The goal is to help those struggling below their grade level to increase their math competency to grade level or above.

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree or Level I or Level II teaching certification. Strongly prefer a bachelor’s or master’s degree in education (or a related degree) Knowledge or experience in best practice math concepts Candidate must have current (within 3 years) PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA Criminal History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, Act 168 Clearance (if applicable), and Mandated Reporter Training Certificate.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Candidate must enjoy being a team player and providing excellent care and service to a diverse population. The candidate should have the ability to interact with staff, families and students in a manner that demonstrates respect and dignity, and the ability to solve problems in a professional manner.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from ground level to waist level and be able to bend, squat, and kneel occasionally throughout work shift. Must be able to reach, lift, and stretch throughout the workday. Must be able to stand and/or walk for up to four hours at a time. Must be able to sit for up to four hours at a time.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Educational Services and the classroom teacher, the Math Specialist has the following duties: Instruct small groups and one-on-one math lessons with students. Keep accurate records of all student data. Provide support for emotional needs of students. Collect, analyze, and maintain accurate records of student progress. Assist with individual assessment of students. Attend workshops or professional development in best practices in math.
