  • Supervised: N/A Job Summary The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for providing athletic training services to Lindenwood University intercollegiate athletic programs. This position collaborates with the athletic training program coordinator to provide supervision, instruction, and evaluation of athletic training students. Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. This job description shall not be construed as a declaration of the total of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position. Employees may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Job Responsibilities and Execution Assists with the overall administration of the athletic training program Evaluates, treats, and rehabs athletic injuries and instructs athletes on injury prevention Maintains accurate medical records and appropriate communication with the sports medicine team and physicians Provides practice and game coverage Conducts pre-participation evaluations Coordinates medical insurance claims Oversees student employees, maintains their schedules, and assists in assigning their seasonal sports rotations Oversees athletic training students, evaluates their clinical performance, and assists with their clinical testing, including clinical exit exams Assists with administrative responsibilities including secondary insurance for student athletes, inventory of athletic training supplies, and coordination of pre-season physicals for athletes Teaches courses as assigned Attends all preceptor training events/instructional seminars Fosters student adherence to the athletic training program’s code of conduct Provides athletic services during athletic events, including pre-event preparation of participants, on-the-field injury assessment, first aid when appropriate, and arranges for transportation to a medical facility as necessary Maintains accurate records of athletic injuries, physical modalities, rehabilitation programs, physician visits, and release of records Maintains proper and current licensure and practices in accordance with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Code of Ethics Directs equipment purchase/maintenance for all athletic training facilities Attends professional development seminars, reads professional journals and texts, and shares information with other staff professionals, athletes, and physicians Service Excellence Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork Communication, Teamwork, and Collaboration Maintains open communication with administration, faculty, physicians, coaches, parents, and athletes, within limits of existing law Acts as a clinical preceptor for athletic training program students and communicates regularly with the clinical education coordinator Sits on various committees as needed (interviews, student employee search, etc.) Presents to students, faculty, and staff as well as community groups/organizations on topics such as injury prevention, conditioning, nutrition, and drug awareness Job may require other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position. Master’s degree Certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (BOC) Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in Missouri Minimum of five years’ experience either as a graduate assistant or as an assistant athletic trainer at a college/university preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all inclusive, of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures Ability to understand and use a variety of modalities to provide athletic training services Familiar with governing rules General computer skills Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of this job’s functions. Requirements

Candidates must hold a Master's degree and be certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (BOC). Additionally, they must be licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in Missouri and have at least five years of relevant experience.
